A Bold Take on Elegant Wedding Stationery
For Mallorie and Zach’s summer wedding at Longleaf Nature Preserve, the initial design direction was all about modern opulence—sleek, elegant, and sophisticated, with romantic drapery and plenty of beautiful details. As the rest of the wedding design came together, the aesthetic evolved into something more vibrant, bringing in bold pinks, fresh greens, botanical elements, and playful color while still keeping the overall look polished and elevated.
At Julia Kay Design, we love when a stationery suite can set the tone for an entire celebration. For this wedding, the invitation became the starting point for a collection of paper and custom details that carried the design from the first impression all the way through the reception.
Mallorie’s inspiration board pointed toward old money, modern luxury, and romantic details—clean lines paired with soft drapery and an elegant estate setting. As planning progressed with Mac & B Events and Salt Core Designs, the design began to take on more color and personality, eventually incorporating the vibrant pinks, greens, florals, and patterned details seen throughout the wedding day.
2. From Sketches to Artwork
The invitation became our starting point for developing the overall stationery look. Delicate calligraphy, fine borders, and botanical artwork kept the invitation feeling classic, while the unexpected color palette and die cut shapes gave it a more playful and modern edge.

Once the overall layout was approved, the suite was built digitally, refining typography, spacing, colors, and artwork until every piece worked together as one cohesive collection.
3. Selecting Materials
Color played a big role in bringing the design to life. A bright pink scalloped inner envelope paired with a chartreuse outer envelope with botanical liner immediately gave the invitation some personality, while the gold wax seal added a more traditional, luxurious detail. The unexpected die cut card shapes made the suite feel funky and fresh. Together, the materials created a nice balance between the sophisticated direction Mallorie originally envisioned and the vibrant, colorful wedding that ultimately came together.

4. Final Proof
At the proofing stage, we focused on making sure all of the small details were working together—from the scale of the calligraphy to the spacing of the fine borders and the balance between the softer stationery colors and bolder envelope. The goal was to keep the invitation feeling elegant and easy to read while still giving it enough personality to stand out. Each piece was also reviewed as part of the larger wedding design, making sure the stationery would feel right alongside the florals, linens, rentals, and other details being developed by the creative team.
5. Printing & Production
Once the design was finalized, production became all about bringing the individual details together with the same level of polish as the digital artwork. From the colorful envelope and liner to the wax seal, layered paper elements, and carefully considered finishing touches, every material was selected to contribute to the overall guest experience. The finished collection included not only custom invitations, but also ceremony programs, dinner menus, and a custom dance floor wrap, carrying the look of the stationery throughout the wedding day. The vibrant paper details fit right in with the final reception design, where bold pink and green drapery, colorful patterned linens, layered tabletop details, and abundant floral arrangements created a space that felt luxuriously unique.
