WEDDING INVITATION TRENDS OF 2020
1. WATERCOLOR
Watercolor invitations were EVERYWHERE! Do I expect this to change for 2021? Absolutely not + it shouldn’t because watercolor artwork is just insanely gorgeous. Whether it was watercolor venue illustrations, watercolor florals, watercolor greenery, watercolor landscapes… everything with watercolor incorporated is just beautiful.
Note for 2021: if you want custom watercolor illustrations incorporated into your suite such as venues, pets, maps, or other sentimental aspects, be prepared for a high invoice. Not to say it isn’t worth it, because trust me- it is 10000% but just go into it with the mindset that you are going to be paying for the work you are receiving.

2. BOLD COLORS
Yes, yes, yes and YES. I will always be rooting for bold colors incorporated into wedding invitations. I mean just look to the left and tell me those colors don’t just make you damn happy!? Again, I don’t see this going anywhere in 2021 and if it does— don’t worry. My studio will ALWAYS be accepting new clients who want bold colors on their invitations! Professional invitation designers like myself have been working with bold colors for years and years and our expertise will not let you down. My motto: the more colors, the better.
3. FLORALS
You can absolutely never go wrong with big beautiful florals on your wedding invitations. My favorite? Incorporating the florals + greenery that are in your wedding bouquet on to your wedding invitations. I mean come ON that is just next level gorgeous. And trust me, people will for sure recognize this little itty bitty details and LOVE IT. Florals can be used for all weddings no matter the time of year. Spring wedding? Wildflowers or Daffodils. Summer wedding? Azaleas or Anemones. Fall wedding? Sunflowers or Dahlias. Winter wedding? Winterberries. It doesn’t matter when — florals are stunning.
4. CITRUS
Yup that’s right. Citrus fruits were EVERYWHERE in 2020 and I am not complaining about it. Seriously you throw oranges, limes, or lemons on paper and some serious bright + beautiful colors are going to be happening. I mean just look to your left, it’s hard NOT to look because of how bold and eye-catching that suite is! It’s not that citrus was popular for wedding “themes” but for some reason people just couldn’t keep them off the paper! Citrus invitations are perfect for spring + early summer vibes. I mean just imagine opening an envelope in April with bright colors of oranges + yellows appearing. Trust me, you’ll be happy and excited.
5. SIMPLICITY
Look, you don’t need crazy to have beautiful. That’s something that will ALWAYS stand true with wedding invitations. Sometimes simple is better. With pops of color, simple wedding invitations are stunning and add in custom calligraphy + you’ve got yourself some damn good looking wedding invitations. Simple invitations are not going anywhere and they certainly weren’t just a “trend” in 2020 but they are definitely worth talking about.
My predictions for 2021 Wedding Invitation Trends:
Okay hear me out. Bold + colorful invitations are not going ANYWHERE. In fact, 2021 will be full of bold + colorful weddings and invitations. After such a dull and dreary 2020, please are in need of some serious color. You’ll see, just wait.
Yellows and lots of yellows will be all over the place. With yellow + gray being the 2021 Pantone colors of the year, I predict we’ll see a lot of invitations incorporating big yellow florals and pops of yellow all over.
Eco-friendly HELLLOOOOO! My calling has come. Eco-friendly invitations are going to be a huge hit in 2021. I don’t have reasoning as to why, but I highly believe it will be. You heard it here first (probably not.)
Warm + vintage is the next thing I think you’ll see everywhere. Maybe a little boho-esque but nonetheless, warm tones and vintage typography already made a rise in late 2020 so it’s no surprise it will stick around in 2021.
